26.08.08: Fish facts and fun at Lofotseminaret

More than 100 participants where present at Lofotseminaret 2008.
15 lectures were held during the two days the seminar lasted, and the conference hall was packed form morning till night.
The speakers did an excellent job in both engaging and sometimes provoking the participants, so much so that the questions and remarks from the listeners threatened to delay the planned timetable. This was particularly evident during the discussions regarding ISA, where Atli Gregersen among others presented valuable insights on the fight against ISA as it is being conducted in The Faroe Islands.
Fish welfare was put on the agenda by several of the lecturers, among others Trygve Poppe, Erling O. Koppang and Tor-Einar Horsberg. The lectures where simultaneously translated to accommodate the English speaking participants.

Good food, music and the chance to have an informal talk with others in the industry are important components of Lofotseminaret. The conference fishing trip has become a popular tradition, and several of the participants proved themselves as able fishermen. The element of competition was strongly present, as was the praise and the glory for the first prize winners Susanna Børdal and Aaron Craig who together managed to land a cod weighing 12,5 kilos.
We are already looking forward to Lofotseminaret 2009!
